To Infinity and Beyond

Rain 23ºC

To see a World in a grain of Sand and Heaven in a wild flower
Hold infinity in the palms of your hand and eternity in an hour
- William Blake
(mouse over to see unprocessed image)

From birth we all are destined for one ending...everyone's will be the same...no ifs...no buts...it awaits us all without exception.  We all know it...what we don't know is the where the when and the how...now that's the scary bit...not the actual act itself but the final journey there.

You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching
Love like you'll never be hurt
Sing like there's nobody listening
and Live like it's Heaven on Earth
~ William W. Purkey
(mouse over to see unprocessed image)

Think I'm being a little morbid here...
we must never forget the scores of years in between the two points that we experience that we will remember and treasure...which will for sure make us smile a little...at the end of our journey.

This post is inspired by and dedicated to my ninety two years young dad who has blessed us with his exceptional good health and hope he will continue to do so for a long time to come.

for the LOVE of MELBOURNE

28ºC Thunderstorms and Humid

I've lived in Sydney since I was six, my first visit to Melbourne was when I was about 9, my second and most recent visit was many many years later, last month...a trip I took with my five sisters and my two children...my two young children enjoyed the trip as much as their older travel mates...which proves Queensland isn't the only place in Australia that children want to visit.

All the Desserts on offer at our Docklands lunch

During our five days four nights short trip to Melbourne we did a round road trip of almost 800 km beginning and ending at Tullamarine Domestic Airport...during this trip we only stepped foot into Melbourne city once on the first day to enjoy our first delicious meal...buffet lunch...at the Docklands...that set the tone for the rest of the holiday.

Some boys enjoying the beautiful surroundings

Spectacular scenery along the beautiful and windy Great Ocean Road

Melbourne is a destination I have always associated shopping and eating with, these are the feedback I get from most people I have known that have visited, many of whom visit numerous times.  So while planning our itinerary we hoped to see outside of the CBD and to our surprise the scenery was spectacular...amongst the many highlights, one standout was the Great Ocean Road, which runs along the coastline to the Twelve Apostles...four hours of crystal clear beaches with water in all shades of blue and green with sheer cliff faces on the other side of the road.

But the most definite highlight of the trip for me was the moment I realised I've found the place where I knew my heart was...that moment was when I stepped off the Queenscliff to Sorrento Ferry and arrrived in Sorrento on the tip of the Mornington Peninsula...it just hit me "this is it"...not exactly sure why...maybe it was the pristine beach with only a handful of people bathing in them, the long jetty...I'm not sure.  That feeling is still with me today.  But at this stage of my life shifting abodes is just not an option...looks like I'll have to keep this dream under wraps for now...hopefully one day in the future it can be unwrapped.

If given the time I would've loved to explore more of Victoria...it is definitely a hidden treasure that is within my reach...one day.  In the meantime I'll keep dreaming those dreams...especially the ones that make me smile.

my focus your perspective

21ºC Partly Cloudy

This is my focus and perspective, where would yours be?
Mouse over to see before and after image.

FOCUS and PERSPECTIVE
two things we subconsciously act on every waking minute of our day
through our eyes and the things that we do.
no two persons will have the same.

In life we would hope that ours would always be the best but that may not always be the case,
sometimes we will get it spot on and then there are times when we just don't, that's just LIFE!
Live to Learn, Learn to Live.

Dancing Matchstick

Cloudy then Sunny 18ºC

Macro Monday theme is "SMOKE".

A controversial theme or so a few thought, I thought I'd put a little fun to it and turn it into a little animation, just to lighten everyone's mood.

Life Love & Death

Sunny 19ºC

To give life is selfless
To receive life is to receive the biggest gift of all

After two new additions and another on the way, our large extended family is ever growing...the joys of hearing the pitter patter of little feet and the pleasure of witnessing the many firsts in their lives as they take that precious gift and turn it into a growing life is priceless.

To Love or To Be Loved

Love at times cannot be equal, one will love more or one will be loved more...but when you can love equally and as equals then maybe just maybe it is true.

Merry-Go-Round of Life's Cycle

Death will come...no exceptions
Life lived to the fullest
Dreams dreamed then realised
Loved Laughed and Lived
No regrets.

You Are My Sunshine

Showers 18ºC

Mouse over.

Your Are My Sunshine, a song that always gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling, once you even just see the chorus lyrics you will no doubt have this tune playing in your head for the rest of the day. Until I finally saw the full lyrics of this song I had never realised it was really a very sad song...I had always just known the chorus. Here is but only one version of this songs lyrics but I am sure there are a few different versions, one of which has been declared as one of the state songs for the state of Louisiana...

The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head and cried

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

I'll always love you and make you happy
If you will only say the same
But if you leave me to love another
                                                      You'll regret it all someday

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

I'm sure you now will have this playing in your head for the rest of the day.

Winter Break

Early rain / afternoon sunshine 16ºC

Having taken a week off from work for the kid's school Winter break I've secretly enjoyed the five days I've spent with them, no complaints, no tantrums, with Katy Perry's Firework constantly sung into my ear (both of them are currently obsessed with this song).

We've taken in a movie, strolled through the museum, they went swimming with a friend while I sat by the pool, happily finishing off the last few pages of the last book in the Girl With A Dragon Tattoo trilogy (which I highly recommend by the way) for four hours. Then to top it off I sat at the ice skating rink for another four hours in near freezing temperatures, thankfully not on the same day, while they skated their way to sore feet and cold noses.

Along the way we had a fish and chips lunch in the car on a rain and wind swept day by the beachside, sat at a local cafe, Teascapes, amongst movie star posters and images to indulge our tastebuds, with lots of homemade sandwiches in between all of that. All in all I think all three of us had a funfilled few days. Back to work next week while they have another week to while away before the next school term resumes. *Sigh* think these will be the days we will smile back on.

Things I Love About Winter

Rain 18ºC

Winter is not for everyone but for people who love it, there are some things in life that makes us smile extra wide during the long cold Winter ... some of the things that make me smile ...

crackling wood fires ... toasted marshmallows ... hot chocolate ... a good book ... watching the last of the Autumn leaves fall with the wind ... ugg boots ... a hot cuppa soup ... well loved scarf ... snuggled indoors on a rainy Sunday afternoon ...

Goliath versus David

Sunny 21ºC

I LOVE BIKES ... when you're young, they can bring a child their first taste of freedom, that first ride around the block all by themselves must be the most scariest yet also the most exhilarating and liberating feeling ever ... when you're older, for some it can be a form of healthy activity, where they can be with their own thoughts, providing exercise to the body and to the mind.  And for some it could be a mode of transport, taking them from point A to point B and beyond ... but it is the latter that has me putting myself on the line here because I know there are a whole lot of people that do use this as a form of transport on the roads and they may not like my opinion.

A few days ago I approached the T intersection where my house is situated, stopped, looked to check for any cars on the left and the coast was clear, or so I thought, I made that right hand turn and pulled up in front of my garage ... a few seconds after I stopped my car I heard a hail of abuse come flying past me in the form of a bike rider going a hundred miles an hour (well ok the speed may have been a little exaggerated but let's just say it wasn't slow).  I'm just wondering, should something that weighs 10-20kg with the rider with no real means of protection, except maybe some lycra and a helmet, really be sharing the same space with something that weighs a hundred times or more and can travel many times the speed of a bike?  I'm not so sure.  I think roads are meant for cars, pathways for pedestrians and bike tracks for bikes.

In truth, after that day, it dawned on me I don't ever want to be in a situation where I could be responsible for another human being's wellbeing or even possibly life.  Operating a car is responsibility enough, looking out for other stressed out drivers, trying very hard to keep in my own lane, mind my own business and most important of all keep out of the way of 2 tonne trucks, without having to also watch out for riders on their bikes who at times have the visibility of a foot wide at the most from head on or behind, whilst also having to put into consideration the attitude of some (the key word here is "some", because I know not all riders have that atttiude) riders, I'm sure most drivers will know what I'm talking about so I won't go there.  I have nothing against riders, they must be lovely people too, but I just hope that they keep in mind when a situation like the one I experienced a few days ago happens to them next time with a car, the driver really didn't intend to put their massively overweighted car in their paths to try to knock them over and that the drivers also get a terrible fright, that a split second left or right, the outcome would've have been far worse than just some flying abuse.  If you as a rider demand respect from drivers then I think you need to also respect the drivers, their cars and most importantly the road first, in order to receive.

The universal thought is that the bike rider is the David in this road war, no matter what happens, the driver (Goliath in this case) is always the one in the wrong, but we all know as drivers that that may not necessarily always be the case.

Is there a solution to this dilemma?

I think not, but there is always a good debate in it, the line marking the for and against team will always remain clear and bold.  Just a few words (or should I say a few paragraphs) from a shaken yet at times quite frustrated road sharing driver.

Future is the Present

Sunny 23 ºC

I was doing a little thinking today, about a person, when a little thought popped into my head ... does the choices and actions we make today determine our future or does our future determine the choices and actions we make today?

If I'm not wrong I think a lot of people, including myself, have always thought the former to be true but  I am starting to think that maybe in some instances, the choices and actions made many years ago were determined by a future that nobody could forsee.

Just a little thought.

Just a note about why this image is upside down ... guess I'm just trying to show that in the end all the
little paths and steps we take eventually will take us to one point in life in which pre-determined each
and every little step we chose along the way... though the word chose may not be the right one to use...
maybe 'take' would be a more suitable "choice".

Whispers

Sunny 23ºC

Mouse over to see original image

Sometimes a whisper may not seem much but when it's heard only by you and nobody else then it becomes something special.

But sometimes you may not want to overhear a whisper not meant for you ... then it would become a chinese whisper ... and we know what the outcome of that is.

Season Confusion

Sunny 25ºC

My garden is a little confused, flowers still blooming ... bees full of pollen still buzzing around.  My rose bush that we planted 4 years ago has never flowered (probably due to my lack of green fingers) has produced it's first bud ... it's not too pretty but it's a bud all the same.  Two weeks into Autumn and we are still enjoying a bit of Summer weather.

Happy Birthday to YOU!

Mini Tonado weather 21ºC

Oh my how these last nine years have flown by... like a blink of the eye... how you've changed...
Happy birthday Maddy! ... my hopes and dreams for you is the same as all the other mothers in this world ... grow with good health..happy mind..kind heart..and most of all never be afraid to chase your dreams.

Password: maddy

Publishing this a day after her actual birthday, as inspiration is a funny thing, when it hits the urge to get it done is instant ... felt this urge at 10.30pm yesterday so spent the next two hours creating it then uploading to Vimeo ... who took a while to start the conversion ... hence a day late.

Dreams over Fear?

Cloudy with a little sun 24ºC

This quote which was a PS brush that Carol Hart offered to her contacts for download provoked me to think "Would I?", well after some serious thought I think "no", no has been my answer for such a long long time, I'm not an adventurous person, not one to try something new or alien.  I realise now that for me, dreams and fear does go hand in hand, one does not go without the other, the uncertainty, the unknown, the expectation...all adds up to at least a little bit of fear whenever we want to venture into our dreams, well mine anyway.

Thank you Carol for inspiring this post ... have been a little lacking in the inspiration department of late, so any help is very much appreciated.

Images with Words

24º Rain

This blog was done for my Beyond Layers blog but thought I'd also post it here too, anyway just my interpretation of these quotes.

follow your bliss ~ my love of baking and food photography gives me the perfect mixture to give me the bliss I feel when I see my final results ...

hold a true friend in both your hands ~ you don't need many friends just a few that matter ... when you do find them hold them with all your might ...

we need never be afraid of our tears ~ crying tears of joy or sorrow is a way for us to release that joy or sorrow, if it is left brew inside us we will never feel joy to it's extent and never put that sorrow to rest...

wherever you go ... go with all your heart ~ if you never do, you will never know how far you can go.

there is no remedy for love, but to love more ~ what can I say, love is a complicated emotion, don't think many people have or ever will know how to grasp it properly ... for the ones that have, consider yourself lucky ...

Summer's Finally Arrived

Sunny 27ºC

We had a beautiful Summer's day today, full on sunshine with a cool breeze, have missed it so much this Summer.  Today's sunset is the best one I've seen all Summer.

An Instagram creation.

Mouse over to see original image.

It's nice to sit in a quiet spot under the shade with a cool breeze blowing on a warm Summer's day and just blur out the world around us ... just a little ... not too much ... just enough to forget the day's rush to collect the kids ... do the groceries ... rush off to work ... all those things that we do to keep our little world turning.

Zone out a little and keep dreaming ...

The Natural Progression of Life

25ºC {Gloriously} Beautiful

So here's how it's supposed to go ~

Have a happy childhood ...

Boy meets Girl ... Girl meets Boy ...

Boy and Girl marry ...

They become a family ...

Raise their children and grow old together ...

Well that's how our road should be travelled, but inevitably, there will be some who run into road blocks and have to take detours to get where they want to go .... some that take a wrong turn and get terribly lost ... some that choose to turn instead of taking the road ahead ... and then there are some that just don't want to take the road everyone else travels on and build their own roads to get to their destination.  For the lucky ones that are able to travel a smooth and straight road, treasure it and be grateful.

We all hope to have the most colourful and fulfilling life we can, so whatever way you choose to travel this journey, hope yours is all that you have hoped for.

So Far This Year

Cloudy 25ºC

Idyllic ...

Centennial Park on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

It's been a month since arriving back from my holidays and gradually I have continued my photography from where I left off last year with my last Project 365 post on 31st December ... and may I just say it has been an idyllic journey so far. Unlike the "must get the shot everyday" feeling, it has been "well if nothing gets shot or uploaded today there's always tomorrow", I am truly enjoying the process now.

Don't get me wrong Project 365 was totally amazing, a challenge every amateur photographer should do, the intensity and sense of achievement is almost enough to push you through.  I did say almost because you do also need a great support group to give you that extra push when you just don't feel like picking up the camera, to get you over that finish line. My support group consisted of many amazing photographers [and you all know who you are], some also on their very own 365 journey and others who are on journeys of their very own, thank you guys from the bottom of my heart.

Enjoying a leisurely stroll at the park ...

Take the time, have a stroll at your park and keep dreaming ...

old things new again

Cloudy 27ºC

Old iron found in the same place.

I am finding myself more and more drawn to old things that were such simple additions to peoples lives not so long ago (well maybe quite a few years ago, judging by the looks of these) ... but is it age or is it interests that make us start to see things differently ... these two objects, to some may be just old and ready to be trashed but to me they are an instant photography subject.  Maybe it just shows if we have been shown how they could look, we will realise once tweaked, you will see it in a total different light.

Hope you see it too...

End of Summer break

Alas, time is so fleeting, six weeks of my children's Summer Holiday break is over in the blink of an eye, though this year we were overseas for half of that ... time to say goodbye to the lazy days and time to prepare for another year filled with schedules, school work, extra-curricular activities and a whole lot of busyness ... probably our last visit to the beach yesterday ...

A quiet moment ..

A sweet moment ...

A funny moment ...
